The bid for the new Owyhee Combined School was officially accepted and approved by the Elko County School District Board of Trustees at its meeting on Feb. 4, 2025. Construction is set to begin soon, and completion is expected by June 2027—just in time for students to start the 2027-28 school year.
Elko County School District trustees have awarded the project to MGM Construction, marking a major step forward. The $63.37 million bid falls within the $64.5 million granted by the 2023 Nevada Legislature to provide a modern learning space for students in Owyhee. Urged by state Sen. Ira Hansen, Shoshone-Paiute Tribal Chairman Brian Mason, and other advocates, the board’s approval ensures construction can begin without further delay, keeping costs in check and progress on track.
